There was a joke that was told about my husband's father. His father was born in Naples, Italy. His father said with an accent "My boy Vickie All-State All-City two papers. Joe Atwood was one of his best friends. My husband love the Cavaliers and The coach. Recently we were at a Cavalier's lunch in Centeral Florida where the 1951 - 1953 years was talked about.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04310964212388741052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7234021289339313822.post-53202621336007525022015-05-13T08:22:25.450-07:002015-05-13T08:22:25.450-07:00Love the article, but feel obliged to acknowledge ...Love the article, but feel obliged to acknowledge the 1953 team. Gables beat Jackson 14-13,to turn the "Big Three" into the "Big Four" as Ed Harrison earned the nickname "Golden Toe" by kicking both extra points to win the game. In addition, Joe Atwood was named as an All-State player from that team. Nick Kotys was indeed a great coach and kind enough to sign my 1954 Cavaleon.Herbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13260590197996391212noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7234021289339313822.post-36974774180768513272015-02-12T14:46:22.382-08:002015-02-12T14:46:22.382-08:00A 1957 grad and member of the Gables High "Ba...A 1957 grad and member of the Gables High "Band of Distinction". What a thrill it was to watch Gables play football. It's always nice to be on the winning side. The Gables Band, like the football team was top notch, considered to be one of the best band and orchestra programs not only in South Florida but the nation. What an honor to have been at Gable during those golden years. My years at Gables set the stage for a 27 year career as a musician in the United States Navy. At 6'1" and under 150 lbs. he would still go up against anyone, even if they were 3-5 inches taller than he was. He managed to overcome a severe stuttering problem and did very well in school as well I was told. It was a shame that he could never put on enough weight to become a force with the San Diego Chargers when he was drafted in 1969. His father died before he was a teenager, but he would have been mighty proud of his son's accomplishments in life.
